Pernille Lyager Möller was born in 1989 and raised in Holstebro, Denmark. She rode for the first time when she was 7 years old and two years later she received her first icelandic horse. For her entire youth, she attended a local riding school with Icelandic horses and spent all of her free time at the horse barn. Her passion grew and grew as she started to enter competitions and in 2003 she became the Danish Youth Champion in four-gait and tölt classes. Pernille´s passion for the Icelandic horses has never changed!
In 2002, Pernille visited Iceland for the first time with her mother and sister. After that, she started visiting Iceland almost every summer to see her growing number of friends and, of course, work with horses at a variety of training stations and trekking businesses.
After finishing her primary education in Denmark in 2009, Pernille moved to Iceland and started work for Viðar Bragason and Ólafia Snælaugsdóttir at the farm Björg 1 in Hörgárdal (www.bjorg1.is). For a year, she continued to work at Björgum until she began her studies at Hólar University. While studying at Hólar, Pernille did her internship with the renowned trainer Lena Zielinski at the farm Efra-Hvoli. After graduating from the third year of Hólar, she also spent time working with the famous Siggi Sigurðarson at Þjóðólfshaga. While working as a trainer and instructor, Pernille has always been passionate about showing horses in competition. She has competed extensively and been very successful on the oval track. Her competition achievements include winning A-flokk (Five gait gæðingakeppni) at Fjórðungsmót Austurlands 2013, where she also received the FT Award for Horsemanship.
With her Bachelor of Science degree in Equestrian Science from Hólar University, Pernille began working independently in 2014. She currently runs a training station at Þjórsábakki in Flóa and offers a variety of services including starting young horses, training, and ridden instruction. Pernille is also available for lessons and clinics internationally both in Europe and the United States. Read more under teaching services.
